Uploading to youtube these days is pretty easy using Cyberlink’s Powerdirector on a PC, or iMovie on a Mac. They both have youtube options for automatic production and upload. I have been having trouble with one video though…of all things an old documentary I made of my sons little league season. First of all the 18 minute video was too big, youtube only allows 10 minutes max. No problem, split it up. Well, part 1 never uploads, part 1 does. About the same length, whatever, I’ll get back to it…I do, still fails, …this has been going on for many months…not high priority, but in the meantime people must be wondering where is part 1? Hey but I’m happy to keep trying, part 2 has a high rating ;-).
Anyway, so I break up part 1 into part 1 and 2, and simply retitled the existing original part 2 on youtube to say its part 3 (to preserve p hit counts, ratings etc),
But then part 2 hits a snagm … this is what I get back from youtube:

Well, thanks, I deleted it. There are keys parts to the Vid that is timed to the song, it would not make sense to put muzak on it or mute it. The song ID’d was John Fogarty’s “Centerfield”…and if you know about his copyright tribulations you’d find it amusing. Anyway, youtube has a bunch of videos up there with centerfield by random people, my thoughts were “why me?”
At first I thought there was a real human out there, watchdoggin …but of course not, its a soul-less algorithm…
Ok, so I figure the shortess cut would be to download an existing centerfield audio on youtube, and quickly paste that into the video, muting out the original,,, (there are a lot of web based converters BTW, just google “youtube convert mp3″ (I used http://www.flv2mp3.com). For good measure I also added some duplicate footage from part 1 in the beginning, and not start out with just the song…
Well it worked, sort of, the timing sequence got off…the song was not the same length, slightly different speed, and the begin and end parts were clipped off. I don’t have time to mess with it more, the rounding third “brown-eyed handsome man” part is off, who will notice but me?…at least I think I got the “kiss that one goodbye” homerun right (my oldest son of course)…
Yeah, I have my thoughts on why this worked, and the other didn’t…but technical heuristics is something one could write about forever, not now.
Here’s the youtubes…(original video TBD, maybe)
